GitHub / Website not yet public
This was a web application created under the direction of the
Dhakira Heritage Center at NYU Abu Dhabi featuring the
department's archive of oral histories, photographs and videos of
Delma Island, an island off the coast of Abu Dhabi. This was
created in collaboration with
Junior Francisco Garcia
(back-end developer) and
Emily Broad (archivist).
The application makes calls to a comma separated values file
through a Node.js back-end that contains information about the
photographs and text used in each location. This information is
processed by the React app to generate a page for each location
(row) that is detailed in the csv file (managed by the archivist).
I was in charge of designing as well as developing the user
interface using React. The site has two main components: an
interactive map with markers using React Leaflet and a filtering
system (typeahead multiselect) to view locations/histories by an
associated tag.
The interactive map uses markers that have a popup with limited
information about the location, users can click a "read more" tab
to view a page dedicated to more information about the site with
galleries, interviews and their transcripts, and videos. Users can
also view the stories by going to the "stories" page on the
navigation bar to filter locations/stories based on subject tags
and/or topics.
Due to the discussion of several sensitive topics on the
website, the site is private for the time being to preserve the
privacy of those interviewed.
